TAITRA inks Japan exhibition agreement

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Tokyo Big Sight Inc. July 26 in Taipei City, paving the way for greater cooperation between two of Asia’s leading exhibition organizers.

Finalized by TAITRA President and CEO Chao Yuen-chuan and his TBS counterpart Kenichi Shimada, the pact requires signatories to bolster exchanges in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector, as well as share information on marketing strategies and business operations.

“Japan is the Asian leader in the MICE sector with a considerably larger market than Taiwan’s,” Chao said at the signing ceremony. “Given the two countries’ highly complementary economic structures, this tie-up is certain to further boost bilateral business activity.”

According to Chao, the deal was initiated by TAITRA Executive Vice President Walter M.S. Yeh during a council-organized visit to Tokyo in March promoting Taiwan’s agricultural products.

The memorandum is another example of TAITRA’s ongoing efforts to promote Taiwan business abroad. On July 26, the council signed a three-way mutual assistance agreement with Arlington-based Consumer Electronics Association and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

During his stay in Taiwan, Shimada and other TBS delegates met with local MICE firm representatives and inspected the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. (JSM)
