ROC President Ma Ying-jeou’s plan to establish an aviation circuit in Northeast Asia will be realized when direct flights between Taipei Songshan Airport and Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport are launched April 30, the Civil Aeronautics Administration said. The route is the last link in the loop connecting airports in Taipei, Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo, according to the CCA Dec. 28. According to revisions to the air transportation agreement between Taiwan and South Korea completed last year, each side will operate seven flights per week between the two destinations. Taiwan carriers China Airlines Co. Ltd. and EVA Airways Corp. and South Korean budget carriers T’way Airlines and Eastar Jet have won approval to operate the flights. The maiden flight on the new route will be by a CAL Boeing 737-800 passenger jet. The airline will offer three flights per week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, while EVA will operate flights four times a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to the CAA. The CAL flights will take off from Songshan at 9:25 a.m. and land at Gimpo at 12:45 p.m., while the return flight will depart at 1:45 p.m. and arrive in Taipei at 3:25 p.m., CAL said. EVA flights will commence May 1, with the earliest departure time from Taipei being 9:25 p.m. and the latest arrival time at Songshan 10 p.m., according to EVA. (SB-THN) |
