A center providing assistance in shooting films and TV programs will be established to boost Taiwan’s motion picture industry, Premier Wu Den-yih announced Feb. 2.
In a cabinet meeting on progress in the promotion of six emerging industries and four new intelligent sectors, Wu instructed agencies in charge to establish a center to help industry professionals deliver quality works.
“New-generation media workers in Taiwan are very creative. We should do our best to substantiate their ideas and bring them to the world’s stage,” said Wu.
Wu expects the establishment of such an agency would help create business opportunities for related sectors, such as tourism. He noted how South Korea’s idol dramas are so popular that the number of tourists visiting locations featured in the shows has increased, and that related idol products have generated handsome revenues for the country.
The center should therefore assist in the production of films and TV dramas in Taiwan’s scenic spots, Wu said, to bring these places into the spotlight.
The premier also expressed his wish to see more international teams making films in Taiwan. He asked Emile Chih-jen Sheng, Council for Cultural Affairs Minister and Su Jun-pin, Government Information Office Minister, to arrange for convenient access to information on transportation, accommodations and consultations for overseas industry professionals interested in shooting in Taiwan.
City and county tourism bureaus, as well as related Cabinet agencies, should also participate in the efforts to make Taiwan a great country for media productions, said Wu.
