Taiwan hosted a videoconference with Russia to share the two sides’ experiences and best practices for combating coronavirus April 23 in Taipei City.
Co-organized by Taipei-based Tri-service General Hospital and First Moscow State Medical University, the event was held with assistance from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Representative Office in Moscow for the Taipei-Moscow Economic and Cultural Coordination Commission. It was attended by 40 academics and experts of infectious diseases from both sides.
Titled “2020 Taiwan-Russia COVID-19 Experience Sharing Webinar,” the videoconference focused on areas including infection prevention, isolation treatment and hospital bed management. A highlight was an introduction by TSGH staffers on how to use real-time polymerase chain reaction to test for the coronavirus.
Notable speakers included Shieh Dar-bin, deputy minister of the MOST; Keng Chung-yung, head of the TMECCC’s Moscow office; Dr. Tsai Chien-sung, superintendent of TSGH; and Dr. Petr V. Glybochko, rector of FMSMU.
In his opening remarks, Shieh said Taiwan has earned recognition in the international community for its management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar is an opportunity for both sides to exchange expertise while strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against coronavirus, he added.
The videoconference follows on the heels of a memorandum of understanding regarding disease prevention research collaboration inked between TSGH and FMSMU in June last year. (YCH-E)
