Taiwan’s National Central Library and France’s Bibliothèque publique d'information du Centre Pompidou concluded an agreement to promote reading and cultural literacy May 31 in Paris.

The pact was signed by NCL Director-General Tseng Shu-hsien with Director Christine Carrier from the French library. Head of Taipei Representative Office in France Wu Chih-chung coordinated the project.

NCL Director Tseng said the bilateral cooperation strengthens the bond between the two facilities to promote reading and cultural literacy, seek opportunity for collaboration, and share resources, laying a solid foundation for a partnership between the two entities. The bilateral agreement also enables access to Taiwan culture for those in France, she added.

In appreciation of the cooperation, NCL offered BPI a gift of a replica copy of the Yuan Dynasty Diamond Sutra. The gift symbolizes the value of the joint cooperation between the two libraries.

The latest agreement follows three others made in October 2022 with counterparts in Lithuania, Estonia and Hungary to expand collaboration. (POC-E)
