A donation of 20,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses by Lithuania to Taiwan is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs June 23.
The EU member state’s announcement that it intends to provide Taiwan with vaccines is an inspiring show of humanity, the MOFA said. It also serves as an outstanding example of democratic partners caring and supporting each other in an hour of need, the ministry added.
At a time when Taiwan is staging a strong COVID-19 fightback, the northern European country’s decision to lend a helping hand is appreciated, the MOFA said. Given many Lithuanian political leaders know Taiwan well through exchanges and visits, the gesture augurs well for a further warming of bilateral relations, the ministry added.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “We sincerely thank @ArmonaiteA for announcing the timely & much appreciated donation of vaccines. The government & people of #Taiwan are grateful for the support of #Lithuania, & look forward to taking ties between the freedom- & democracy-loving countries to new heights.”
Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu also tweeted, “My heartfelt appreciation to the government & people of #Lithuania for the vaccine donation. Minister @GLandsbergis, your great country has captured the heart of every person in #Taiwan at this difficult time. You’re a true friend, & we’re #StrongerTogether.” (SFC-E)
