The latest donation of 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan by Japan is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs July 13.
Announced by Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi earlier the same day, the shipment of AstraZeneca is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan July 15. It follows donations of 1.24 million and 1.13 million AZ vaccines delivered June 4 and July 8, respectively.
According to the MOFA, the people of Taiwan are deeply touched by Japan’s generous assistance. This gesture takes on greater significance given it takes place at a time when the country is also focused on combating coronavirus, the ministry said.
The vaccines will boost Taiwan’s inoculation coverage, enhance pandemic response measures and safeguard the health and well-being of the people, the MOFA said, adding that such genuine and timely support will long be remembered by all segments of society.
Taiwan and Japan are like-minded partners cooperating closely in promoting the shared values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, the ministry said. Based on this solid foundation, the government will continue working with the East Asian country in expanding related exchanges enabling the people of both sides to return to everyday life as soon as possible, the MOFA added.
