President Tsai Ing-wen said Sept. 17 that the government will continue to strengthen bilateral ties with Central America ally Belize while leaving no stone unturned in improving the well-being of the people.

Belize is a true friend and partner in prosperity consistently voicing support for Taiwan in the international arena, Tsai said. The countries enjoy a close partnership spanning such areas as agriculture, health care and infrastructure over the 32 years of diplomatic relations, she added.

Tsai made the remarks during a special video message for Belize’s 40th anniversary of independence in which she extended her congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan.

According to Tsai, the countries are cooperating closely in combating COVID-19 through sharing experiences, know-how and resources. In addition, a bilateral economic cooperation agreement was signed last year as part of joint efforts to expand trade exchanges, she added.

Pacts on aviation services and legal assistance were also inked, Tsai said, adding that such cooperation underscores a shared commitment to deepening mutually beneficial collaboration and advancing sustainable development.

Tsai also took the opportunity to thank Belize for its friendship and support. Going forward, it is sincerely hoped the countries keep working together across a broad spectrum of areas for the greater good, she said. (DL-E)
