President Tsai Ing-wen launched a projection mapping show illuminating the facade of the historic Presidential Office building as part of the ROC (Taiwan) 110th Double Tenth National Day celebrations Oct. 5 in Taipei City.

Themed “The Pursuit of Democracy; Taiwan Engages the World,” the show features images of Team Taiwan’s highlights at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics while paying tribute to predecessors who made contributions to the country’s cultural development. The ten-minute show will be projected on to the building every half hour from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6-10.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Tsai said this year’s edition will continue to showcase Taiwan’s pride and glory as demonstrated in previous iterations. It will also celebrate the centennial of the Taiwanese Cultural Association, a force for promoting local culture during the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945), while embodying the people of Taiwan’s efforts in pursuing freedom and democracy over the past 100 years, she added.

Tsai stated that Taiwan’s Olympic and Paralympic heroes have showcased the country’s sporting excellence on the global stage. She also took the opportunity to thank the people of Taiwan for their unity in combatting COVID-19, adding that more Double Tenth National Day celebrations are underway.

Among the high-profile attendees were Vice President Lai Ching-te; Chen Chien-jen, former vice president and vice chairman of Taipei City-based General Association of Chinese Culture; Premier Su Tseng-chang; and Legislative Speaker You Si-kun, who heads up the event’s preparatory committee.

The light show is one of numerous celebratory events taking place through Oct. 10 countrywide. Others include a National Day reception to be held in northern Taiwan’s Hsinchu City and a fireworks display in the southern city of Kaohsiung. (YCH-E)
