The fifth edition of the annual Yushan Forum gets underway Oct. 8 in Taipei City, bringing together academics, experts and opinion leaders from around the globe to discuss ways of enhancing post-pandemic regional prosperity.

Organized by Taipei City-based think tank Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, the daylong physical-virtual event involves representatives from across the New Southbound Policy region, as well as 10 countries such as France, Japan and the U.S.

Attendees will address key issues like fostering multifaceted regional linkages, new reality cooperation, next-generation connectivity in Asia and rebuilding and reinforcing resilience and well-being.

High-profile participants include President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President Lai Ching-te, Tony Abbott, former prime minister of Australia, and Keiji Furuya, chairman of the Japan-ROC Diet Members’ Consultative Council, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The forum demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing regional dialogue and prosperity, the MOFA said, adding that a series of co-organized events on the sidelines of the forum will showcase the success of the NSP’s various flagship programs.

A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to deepen Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “.@yushanforum organized by @taef_tw starts Oct. 8 in #Taiwan. Themed Resetting Priorities of Progress with Resilience, the event features @iingwen, @ChingteLai, @HonTonyAbbott & participants from across the #NewSouthboundPolicy region & 10 countries!” (SFC-E)
