Taiwan’s Digital Minister Audrey Tang visited Lithuania in person to witness the signing of a letter of intent for cooperation, spotlighting government commitment to advancing digital resilience between democracies, according to the Ministry of Digital Affairs Jan. 11.

During her first trip abroad since taking office, Tang called on Lithuania’s Minister of Economy and Innovation Ausrine Armonaite. The two officials exchanged views on issues spanning digital services, financial technology, information security and satellite technology, the ministry added.

They then witnessed the signing of a Taiwan-Lithuania letter of intent for digital resilience cooperation. Inked by the moda’s Department of Democracy Network Deputy Director-General Chuang Ying-chih and Innovation Agency Lithuania Director Romualda Stragiene, the document pledges joint personnel cultivation and the strengthening of civil society’s response to cyber threats.

According to the moda, Tang announced the ministry’s participation in a Lithuanian-led reconstruction plan for Ukraine. Tang also met with Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, Lithuania Parliament speaker and delivered an address at the Seimas’ Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The visit demonstrates the deep bond and shared pursuit of freedom and democracy between Taiwan and Lithuania, Tang said, adding that the two sides will continue strengthening collaboration to “Free the Future” in the face of authoritarian expansion.

The moda itinerary includes a visit to the Seimas’ Committee on Economics, an address at Free Digital Democracy Dialogue forum held at Vilnius University and participation in the Day of the Defenders of Freedom memorial event. (YCH-E)
