The upcoming visits of Belize first lady Rossana Briceno and Foreign Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Keisal Peters are sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Feb. 9.

At the invitation of the government, they are visiting Taiwan for a forum on empowering women in Latin America and the Caribbean set for Feb. 14-16 in Taipei City, the MOFA said.

Organized by Taipei-based International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) under the MOFA’s sponsorship, the event is part of ongoing government efforts to share Taiwan’s experiences in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in response to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, the ministry added.

According to the MOFA, the two female dignitaries will share related policies and experiences of their respective countries during panel discussions and exchange views with representatives from Taiwan’s public sector and civil organizations.

The MOFA said the forum follows a project launched in 2021 by the ministry to promote economic empowerment of women in Latin America and the Caribbean in the post-pandemic era.

In collaboration with local governments and international nongovernmental organizations, the initiative provides credit guarantees, funding and professional training to boost employment and entrepreneurship for micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as women and the youth, according to the ministry.
