Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu hosted a dinner banquet for a delegation led by Marketa Pekarova Adamova, speaker of the Czech Republic’s Chamber of Deputies, and her delegation March 25 in Taipei City, pledging to expand the already robust ties between the two sides, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 160-member delegation is the largest from the Central European country so far and follows the previous 89-member group led by Senate President Milos Vystrcil in August 2020, the ministry added.

During welcome remarks, Wu said he first met Pekarova Adamova during his visit to Prague in 2021 and engaged in detailed discussions with the speaker about the bilateral relationship and the two countries’ respective democratic development.

Despite their great geographic distance, Taiwan and Czechia share the same universal values and enjoy close cooperation and exchanges in a wide range of areas such as culture, education, science and technology, as well as trade and economy, he added.

The minister said with direct flights between Taipei and Prague set to start in July this year, people-to-people exchanges will expand further and bring the two-way ties to a new level.

In response, Pekarova Adamova said Taiwan and the Czechia are like-minded partners sharing the same values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights.

It is hoped that the two sides will continue to strengthen exchanges, especially in key technological sectors, deepening the partnership for mutual benefit, she added.

According to the MOFA, during her five-day stay, Pekarova Adamova will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Legislative Yuan President You Si-kun and Premier Chen Chien-jen, among other top government officials.

Her itinerary includes delivering a speech at the Legislative Yuan and at National Taiwan University, attending the Taiwan-Czechia economic cooperation consultation and witnessing the signing of several bilateral cooperation pacts. (SFC-E)
