The seventh edition of the Yushan Forum, involving academics, experts and political figures from countries such as Japan, Nauru, the U.S. and New Southbound Policy countries, opened Oct. 11 in Taipei City.
Organized by Taipei City-based think tank Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, the two-day event is themed “Start a New Blueprint for Asian Development.” Attendees will address key issues like economic and trade collaboration, personnel exchange, resource sharing, regional connectivity and creating mutual social prosperity with civil society.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tsai Ing-wen delivered the opening remarks while Vice President Lai Ching-te will address audiences during the Prospect Asia Roundtable scheduled Oct. 12. They are joined by high-profile participants like Nauru President Russ Joseph Kun; Scott Morrison, former prime minister of Australia; Kelly Craft, ex-U.S. permanent representative to the U.N.; and Keiji Furuya, chairman of the Japan-ROC Diet Members’ Consultative Council, the ministry added.
Established in 2017, the forum offers an outstanding opportunity for countries worldwide to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s NSP implementation, the MOFA said, adding that the government will link the NSP to other countries’ Indo-Pacific strategies.
A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to deepen Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. (YCH-E)
