The seventh Taiwan-Finland Trade Talk wrapped up Dec. 13 in Taipei City, with both sides pledging to enhance their partnership across a broad spectrum of areas, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Convened by Deputy MOEA Minister Chen Chern-chyi and Petri Peltonen, under-secretary of state at the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the one-day event covered topics spanning cyber security, digital health and digitalization, energy and green transition.
According to the MOEA, both sides shared their respective policy measures and sought ways to expand cooperation as Taiwan strives to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, while Finland seeks to become carbon neutral by 2035 and carbon negative soon after that.
Facing similar social, health and demographic challenges, the two countries are deploying information and communication technology to develop health-related applications and have begun cooperation in precision health starting this year, the ministry added.
Both sides also identified energy storage and hydrogen energy development as potential areas for collaboration, and exchanged views on public-sector cyber security protection, among other issues.
Statistics from the Ministry of Finance show that bilateral trade amounted to US$806 million in 2021, up nearly 30% from the year before, placing Finland as Taiwan’s third largest trading partner in Northern Europe. (SFC-E)
