A delegation from the National Science and Technology Council is visiting the Czech Republic Nov. 20-29 to establish formal state-to-state collaboration in science and technology, spotlighting government efforts to deepen ties with the Central European country.
Led by NSTC Minister Wu Tsung-tsong, the group attended the launch of the Supply Chain Resilience Center at Charles University Nov. 24 in Prague. Other prominent attendees included Czech Republic Senate President Milos Vystrcil, Speaker of Czechia’s Chamber of Deputies Marketa Pekarova Adamova, National Chengchi University President Li Tsai-yen and Charles University Rector Milena Kralickova.
Speaking at the event, Wu said the stability of the semiconductor supply chain is of vital importance to the safety and prosperity of Taiwan, Europe and the entire world, adding that generative artificial intelligence is also expected to play a significant role.
According to Wu, Taiwan has already begun integrating chips and generative AI and is applying the technology to various fields. Taiwan is very willing to share its experience in the area with Czechia, he added.
In response, Vystrcil said that there are many things that Taiwan and Czechia can learn from each other in addition to semiconductors. Adamova added that sharing common ground in geography and values facilitates consensus and enables the two sides to face challenges from China together.
Following the center’s launch ceremony, Wu met with Helena Langsadlova, Czech minister of science, research and innovation, to exchange views on semiconductors and space technology, among other topics. (POC-E)
